Intishab.AliJaipur: A 25-year-old woman died at Bikaner’s PBM Hospital Tuesday after battling post-caesarean complications in the ICU for 36 days, pushing the number of such deaths in govt-run hospitals across the state to 19 since May.The deceased, Kamla, was among six women who developed various medical complications after caesarean deliveries at the hospital in June.A senior official at PBM Hospital said she was admitted on June 8 and successfully delivered a baby the same day. “Since she had undergone two previous caesarean deliveries, it was necessary to deliver her third baby through the same procedure,” the official told TOI.Both mother and baby were initially fine, he added, but Kamla developed several complications a day after the procedure, the gravest of which was complete stoppage of urinary output.Doctors said she was moved to the ICU, put on ventilator support and administered dialysis, following which her situation improved slightly. She was subsequently taken off the ventilator when her urine output resumed, but she needed a second surgery due to the stitches from the caesarean procedure.Her condition deteriorated rapidly from that point onwards, with multiple organs being affected. Doctors from AIIMS Jodhpur were consulted, but she could not be saved, the hospital official said.Kamla is the third woman to die at PBM Hospital in recent weeks under similar circumstances. On June 19, 20-year-old Preeti had died after developing post-delivery complications, followed by Sharda, 26, two days later, who had developed kidney failure and required multiple dialysis sessions.All three women who died at PBM Hospital had exhibited stoppage of urine output within 24 hours of caesarean surgery.Of the 19 maternal deaths reported from the state so far, five occurred in Kota, three in Bikaner, two in Jodhpur, four in Bhilwara and five in Banswara.
