Drug overdose or murder? Kajheri man’s death raises questions

Chandigarh: The death of a 31-year-old man whose body was found under suspicious circumstances in Kajheri has taken a curious turn, with the post-mortem attributing the death to a drug overdose even as the family suspects foul play and has submitted CCTV footage to the police.The body was found near a dispensary in Kajheri two days ago. After being alerted by passersby, a team from the Sector 61 police chowki reached the spot and called in the mobile forensic unit. The body was later shifted to the mortuary at Government Multi-Specialty Hospital, Sector 16.Initially unidentified, the deceased was later confirmed to be Deepak, a resident of Kajheri village in Sector 52.Family members said Deepak had left home saying he would return shortly, but did not come back. The following day, they were informed by police that his body had been found.According to the family, CCTV footage handed over to investigators shows a man and a woman transporting Deepak on a bicycle around midnight. In the footage, Deepak appears to be lying face down on the bicycle carrier, with his neck hanging backward. Police are working to identify the two individuals seen in the video.The SHO of Sector 36 police station said the post-mortem report cited drug overdose as the cause of death. However, he added that the CCTV footage and the family’s allegations were also being examined, and all angles of the case remain under investigation.The development comes days after another Kajheri resident was allegedly murdered by two friends over a dispute involving stolen money. In that case, police used CCTV footage from Sector 52 and nearby areas to trace the accused, who were allegedly seen taking the unconscious victim to a hospital on a motorcycle before being arrested.
