Confrontation With Kids Sparks Scuffle in East Delhi Society, Speeding Car Injures 5

New Delhi: At least five people were injured, one of whom is critical, after they were allegedly hit by a speeding car amid a scuffle inside a residential society in east Delhi’s Mayur Vihar Phase III Sunday night.Four persons, including a 12-year-old boy, were injured, police said. Sanjay (40), a resident who was passing by at the time of the incident, is critical.The incident unfolded around 9 pm when a man and a woman, who were not residents of the society, were standing inside the premises. Some children approached them and questioned their presence. “They asked the man and the woman who they were and why they were standing inside the society. During the exchange, the man allegedly slapped one of the children,” a police officer said.The alleged assault triggered tension, following which several residents gathered at the spot. The situation spiralled into a scuffle between the man and the residents. Some alleged that they were assaulted with a rod during the altercation.Police said the man then called three to four people, who arrived at the society in a car. As more residents assembled, the group attempted to flee in their vehicle.“While escaping, they drove the car at high speed, hitting several parked two-wheelers and at least five people. Some of the injured were pedestrians,” the officer said. Police have denied that any eve-teasing had taken place.A case has been registered at New Ashok Nagar police station. Police are examining CCTV footage and have identified three accused, all residents of East Delhi. Efforts are on to trace them.
