Varanasi: A 25-year-old man died and his friend was seriously injured after their motorcycle was hit by a speeding truck on Lalanagar highway in Gopiganj Kotwali area of Bhadohi district on Monday afternoon.The deceased was identified as Mohammad Afsan, a resident of Madhosingh under Aurai Kotwali. His friend, Nihal Ahmed, 24, also from Madhosingh, sustained serious injuries in the accident.According to reports, Afsan and Nihal were going to Gopiganj market to buy tiles. Shortly after crossing the Lalanagar toll plaza, a speeding truck coming from the opposite direction collided with their bike. Afsan came under the truck and died on the spot while Nihal, on pillion, was critically injured.On being informed, the police arrived at the spot and sent the injured to Community Health Centre in Gopiganj. Family members of the victims were also informed.Afsan was a carpet trader and used to live outside the district for work. He had returned only a few days ago.Police have taken both the vehicles into custody. Gopiganj Kotwali in charge Sachchidanand Pandey said the body has been sent for post-mortem and further action will be taken after a complaint is received.
