Raijor Dal MLAs walk out of assembly over arrest of 2 activists

Guwahati: Two Raijor Dal MLAs walked out of the assembly on Monday over the arrest of two rights activists.During the Question Hour, Akhil Gogoi and Mehboob Muktar demanded the release of Pranab Doley and Aditya Rabha. Both wore black, and Gogoi held a placard in Assamese seeking their release. When speaker Ranjeet Kumar Dass asked them to return to their seats, the MLAs walked out.Rabha was arrested on July 9 after protests against the proposed land acquisition for the Satellite City project. Doley was arrested on July 12 in connection with his protest against proposed luxury hotels near Kaziranga.Outside the House, Gogoi alleged the govt was weakening safeguards for tribal land and acquiring land despite public opposition.“We have come to the assembly dressed in black to protest these arrests. We will continue to fight to protect the land rights of indigenous people and the people of Assam,” Gogoi said.
