Chennai: A 27-year-old welder was hacked to death and his face disfigured with a broken beer bottle in a suspected revenge attack near Ponneri in Tiruvallur district on Saturday night. Four persons were arrested in connection with the incident.Sunil, who worked as a welder, was found dead beneath the Arani river bridge with multiple cut injuries. Upon information, police recovered his body and sent it to the Ponneri Government Hospital for postmortem. On Saturday, after work, four people took him to the riverbank under the pretext of consuming alcohol. There, they hacked him to death and disfigured his face with a broken beer bottle before fleeing the spot. The Ponneri police identified the accused as Deepak, 26, Thangavelu, 20, Manikandan, 27, and Aadhavan, 19. Preliminary investigation revealed that the murder was the fallout of a previous enmity. Sunil had attacked friends of the accused during a mourning event at Chinnakavanam last year. Further investigation is on.
