New Delhi: Two days after a collection executive of a finance firm was robbed of a bag containing Rs 16.5 lakh at gunpoint in east Delhi’s Gandhi Nagar, police have arrested Alfaid (22) in connection with the case.According to police, the employee had collected the money from various businesses and was near his office around 4 pm. When he was unloading the cash bag from his scooter, two armed assailants — one wearing a helmet and one wearing a face mask — arrived on a scooter and allegedly took the bag along with his documents. The accused removed the rear number plate of the scooter to evade identification, but the front registration number was captured through CCTV.Based on technical analysis and field verification, cops traced the ownership chain from the original owner to the dealer and ultimately to the latest purchaser. The accused was nabbed from the MCD parking near the Jafrabad metro station. He told police that the robbery was masterminded by Ashu, who had identified the complainant as a vulnerable target, arranged firearms and monitored the complainant’s movement. Ashu had asked Alfaid and one Krishna to follow the complainant from Geeta Colony to Gandhi Nagar and executed the robbery. They had then assembled at a hotel in Laxmi Nagar, where Ashu retained Rs 6.5 lakh, while Rs 5 lakh each was distributed to Alfaid and Krishna. Police have recovered Rs 2.5 lakh and a motorcycle purchased from the robbed money, while efforts are underway to trace Ashu and Krishna.
