Agartala: Tripura Judicial Employees’ Association (TJEA) has sought the Supreme Court’s attention for early disposal of a long-pending petition filed by the state govt challenging a Tripura high court order on implementation of the Shetty Commission recommendations.According to the association, the Supreme Court, while accepting the recommendations, had held that court employees were entitled to financial benefits under the 6th Central Pay Commission. Subsequently, the Tripura high court directed the state govt to extend these benefits to court employees.TJEA said the Tripura govt moved the Supreme Court in 2017 against the high court ’s directive, but the matter has remained pending since then. The association added that nearly a decade of delay has caused severe stress and hardship to hundreds of employees.To draw the Supreme Court’s attention to the matter, TJEA submitted an interlocutory application in May last year, seeking early disposal of the case. However, there has been no progress so far, it said.“Last year, the appeal was listed before the court several times and was heard on two occasions, but the judgement is still awaited,” the association said in a statement.TJEA said the continued pendency of the special leave petition has deprived judicial employees in Tripura of revised pay benefits and prevented pensioners from receiving updated dearness relief on their basic pension.The association pointed out that while court employees in other parts of the country are receiving benefits under the 7th CPC and awaiting revisions under the 8th CPC, judicial employees in Tripura are yet to receive benefits under the 6th CPC. As a result, pensioners in the state are also being denied updated dearness relief, gratuity and other pensionary benefits, it said.
