Jaipur: City police Sunday arrested three members of an alleged vehicle theft gang, including its kingpin, and recovered 10 stolen two-wheelers.Police said the accused were involved in multiple vehicle thefts across different police station areas of Jaipur and allegedly committed the crimes to finance drug addiction and personal expenses.Deputy commissioner of police (Jaipur North) Karan Sharma said all station house officers were directed to intensify surveillance and gather intelligence on criminals involved in theft, burglary, robbery and chain-snatching cases. Acting on the directions, the Manak Chowk police surveillance team investigated the theft of a scooter from the parking area near Govind Dev Ji Temple and analysed CCTV footage besides tracking routes used by the suspects before arresting the three accused.Police identified the accused as Sanjay Rajput alias Sanju, the alleged gang leader, along with his associates Sidharth Khinchi and Ritik Swami. During interrogation, the trio allegedly confessed to stealing dozens of two-wheelers from different parts of the city.Investigators said the accused initially stole helmets from parked two-wheelers at crowded locations, including Govind Dev Ji Temple and Janta Bazaar vegetable market, and sold them to passing motorists for Rs 100-150 to fund their drug addiction. Police alleged Sanjay later formed a gang with the two co-accused to steal two-wheelers for quick money.According to police, the gang primarily targeted unattended parking areas near temples, vegetable markets and other crowded places. After stealing the vehicles, they allegedly concealed them at safe locations before planning to sell them at throwaway prices to unsuspecting buyers across Jaipur.Police recovered 10 stolen two-wheelers, including the Activa scooter stolen in the present case. Further investigation is underway.
