Central varsity rolls out Chinese language, Buddhist & Tibetan studies courses

Dharamshala: The Central University of Himachal Pradesh (CUHP) has introduced six new academic programmes—including law, Chinese language, Buddhism and Tibetan studies, geology, GIS and remote sensing, and hotel management—from the current academic session to improve employability and align higher education with regional and national priorities.Vice-chancellor S P Bansal said the courses had been designed to address industry demand, regional aspirations and emerging employment opportunities while strengthening the university’s multidisciplinary profile.According to the university, the Chinese language programme has been introduced in view of its growing relevance in diplomacy, trade and border regions, while Buddhism and Tibetan studies builds on Dharamshala’s status as a global centre of Tibetan culture and Buddhist learning.The geology and GIS and remote sensing programmes aim to support disaster management, environmental conservation and sustainable development in the Himalayan region. The hotel management course seeks to meet the tourism sector’s growing demand for trained professionals.The university said the new programmes are aligned with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and are intended to equip graduates with multidisciplinary skills while addressing Himachal Pradesh’s developmental needs.
