Class XI student drowns off Ennore coast, friend rescued after giant wave sweeps them away
Police said Gautham and his friend Jothish, 15, were swimming near Ennore Periyakuppam when the wave dragged them into deeper waters.

Chennai: A 15-year-old schoolboy drowned and his friend was rescued after a giant wave swept them into the sea while they were swimming off the Ennore coast on Saturday evening.Police identified the deceased as Gautham, son of Thangaraj, of First Street, Periya Kasi Koil Kuppam, Ernavur. He was a Class XI student at a school in the locality.Police said Gautham and his friend Jothish, 15, were swimming near Ennore Periyakuppam when the wave dragged them into deeper waters. Fishermen who saw them struggling rushed in and brought them ashore. The children were taken to Government Stanley Medical College Hospital.Doctors declared Gautham dead. His body was sent for postmortem. Jothish is undergoing intensive treatment. Ennore police have registered a case.
