NOIDA: Police on Sunday arrested four people after busting a fake call centre in Noida that allegedly duped job seekers by promising them jobs with SpiceJet and collecting money under the guise of registration and processing fees.Additional deputy commissioner of police (Noida) Manisha Singh said the four accused — Sudesh Singh (36), Brijesh Bhadauria (38), Arjun (23) and Sandeep Kumar Tiwari (32) — were arrested from Sector 2 in Noida. During questioning, they allegedly confessed to procuring the contact details of job seekers from Quikr.com and other websites before approaching them with fake promises of jobs at SpiceJet.Police said the accused allegedly sent forged appointment letters to the victims and convinced them to transfer thousands of rupees as registration and processing fees into fraudulent bank accounts. After committing the fraud, the accused would destroy the SIM cards.Police said the accused allegedly procured fresh SIM cards by paying poor or unsuspecting individuals to obtain mobile connections in their names. The gang is suspected of cheating victims out of crores of rupees through the fake recruitment racket.According to news agency PTI, police said more than 20 complaints related to the group’s modus operandi have been registered from various states on the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal (NCRP).Police recovered eight mobile phones, a laptop, nine debit cards, 13 SIM cards, three bank passbooks linked to mule accounts, and four UPI sound boxes allegedly used to carry out the cyber fraud.The recovery was made as part of the Uttar Pradesh Police’s ongoing anti-cybercrime drive, Operation Cyber Vajra, officials said. The operation was carried out by the Phase-1 police station.(With agency inputs)
