Chennai: A 24-year-old man, S Rexith Regim, died after stray cattle hit his two-wheeler on the Tharapakkam service road near the Maduravoyal bypass on Tuesday night.Police said the accident occurred around 11.30pm, when Rexith was riding to a relative’s house at Pallavaram. Stray cattle darted across the road and hit his bike. Rexith sustained severe internal chest injuries and fell on the road.Passers-by alerted emergency services, and he was rushed to a govt hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. The body was sent for postmortem. Based on a complaint lodged by the victim’s uncle, police have registered a case and are checking the CCTV footage from the accident spot.Residents alleged that despite several complaints, officials failed to take any action against cattle owners. Police said cases are being registered against owners if the stray cows cause harm to the public or cause accidents, or if the owners obstruct catching the cattle. Last year, on Sept 5, Jayaraman, 35, of Kancheepuram, died after his motorcycle hit stray cattle near Singaperumal Koil. On Sept 8, Naveen, 19, and his friend Abirami died after their motorcycle collided with a stray cow near Padappai, and a speeding car ran over them. On Dec 21, two people were killed and three women seriously injured in a road accident caused by stray cattle, near Guduvanchery.
