2 absconding spa owners held in Silchar trafficking, prostitution case

Silchar: Cachar police arrested two absconding spa owners on Saturday night in connection with a trafficking and prostitution case. The accused — Rohit Debnath and Rupali Das — were held after a fortnight-long search, police said.Addl SP (Cachar) Manas Saikia said a special Silchar police team traced the duo to their hideouts and took them into custody.“They are being interrogated to unearth the wider network and identify others involved in the cross-border human trafficking and flesh trade racket,” a senior police officer said. The arrests follow simultaneous raids on June 26 at two spas, both located in a commercial complex on Club Road. Police rescued 28 young women during the operation and began probing what they described as an organised prostitution racket allegedly run under the cover of wellness and massage services.Police said residents repeatedly complained about suspected illegal activities at the establishments. Acting on specific inputs, police raided the spas, but both owners escaped.Investigators are now tracing other alleged members of the network and examining possible interstate and cross-border links. Further arrests have not been ruled out.
