Deepti Sharma is 7th KGMU student to win top two honours

Lucknow: Deepti Sharma, an MBBS student (2021-26 batch), will become the seventh student in KGMU’s history to receive both the Hewett Gold Medal and the Chancellor’s Gold Medal at the varsity’s convocation ceremony on Monday.Deepti will also receive 16 medals and certificates including University Honors Gold Medal and Provincial Medical Services Association Gold Medal.The Hewett Gold Medal is awarded to MBBS final professional topper, while the Chancellor’s Gold Medal recognises the best all-round graduate. The University Honors Gold Medal is awarded for overall academic performance and PMSA Gold Medal for securing highest marks in first, second and third professionals.The BDS topper is also a girl, Abhilasha Ghosh, who has been selected for seven gold and silver medals.In MBBS, among other awardees, Nidhi Singh will receive the Dr RML Mehrotra Memorial Gold Medal in the Scheduled Caste category.The university has introduced a new award “vice-chancellor appreciation” this year. It will be awarded to faculty members associated with the Trauma team and Hospital Revolving Fund team.Prof Pradeep Tandon of orthodontics and dentofacial orthopaedics will receive the lifetime dedication award.Of 104 medals, only 20 important ones will be awarded from the stage. The rest will be awarded in another function later.Toppers of DM/MCh super-specialty courses include Dr Prabhat Shukla (surgical oncology), Dr Preeti Gupta (neurology), Dr Saritesh Kumar Thakur (neurology), Dr Jitender Yadav (urology), Dr Rupal Prasad (rheumatology), Dr Saket Ramraika (cardiology), Dr Sidharth Sharma (cardiology), Dr Shubhra Srivastava (pulmonary medicine), Dr Jason Golmei (neurosurgery) and Dr Shrivats Mishra (plastic surgery).Governor Anandiben Patel, who is also chancellor of the university, will preside over the convocation. Defence minister Rajnath Singh will be the chief guest. NITI Aayog member and former AIIMS-Delhi director Dr M Srinivas will receive the honorary DSc (Honoris Causa).The convocation will also see the launch of Hriday Sanjeevani (a basic life support training programme for school and college students), a mobile CT scan service for the Trauma Centre and a University Central Information Kendra.
