Ahmedabad: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Thursday and Friday registered three separate bribery cases across the state.The biggest trap was laid by the Gandhinagar unit of the ACB, which caught an unarmed police constable posted at Kadi police station in Mehsana district. According to the ACB, the complainant and his brothers were involved in a case registered at Langhnaj police station.The constable initially demanded Rs 2 lakh from the complainant to facilitate a settlement in the case. After negotiations, he allegedly agreed to accept Rs 80,000.The complainant approached the Gandhinagar ACB, which organised a trap. During the operation conducted on a public road near Irana Crossroads on the Kadi road, the constable allegedly accepted Rs 80,000 from the complainant and was caught red-handed. The entire amount was recovered from his possession.The ACB registered a case against the constable under relevant provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act.Computer operator held in PatanIn another operation, the Patan ACB arrested an outsourced computer operator posted in the widow assistance branch of the Chanasma mamlatdar office. The accused allegedly demanded and accepted Rs 800 from a decoy applicant for issuing documents required under the widow assistance scheme. The operation was launched following information that applicants were routinely asked to pay bribes ranging from Rs 100 to Rs 2,000.Contractual peon caught in TharadThe Banaskantha ACB also trapped a contractual peon at the Tharad mamlatdar office while allegedly accepting Rs 200 from a decoy applicant for providing certified copies of revenue records. The decoy operation was conducted after inputs that bribes were being sought for approving revenue entries and issuing certified copies.
