Hyderabad: With internal medicine evolving rapidly and physicians increasingly required to stay updated across a widening range of specialities, Hyderabad will host one of the region’s largest academic gatherings of medical experts on July 11 and 12.More than 1,000 physicians from Telangana and other southern states are expected to participate in the 10th annual conference of the Association of Physicians of India (API) Telangana chapter and the sixth South Mid Zone conference at the Engineering Staff College of India (ESCI), Gachibowli. Hosted by the Hyderabad chapter of the API, the conference is themed ‘Engaging Minds: Translating Expertise to Evidence.’The two-day event will bring together leading physicians, researchers and medical educators to deliberate on emerging health challenges and the latest advances in patient care. The extensive scientific programme reflects the growing complexity of internal medicine, where practitioners must keep pace with developments spanning infectious diseases, endocrinology, cardiology, neurology, nephrology and critical care.Key discussions will focus on a wide spectrum of clinical issues, including leptospirosis, hypertension in the elderly, liver disorders during pregnancy, sepsis, autoimmune diseases and vaccine-preventable diseases in adults. Dedicated sessions have also been planned on acute febrile illnesses prevalent in Telangana and other diagnostic challenges frequently encountered by physicians.The conference will place considerable emphasis on lifestyle-related disorders, which continue to pose a major public health challenge. Experts will deliberate on obesity management, advances in hypertension treatment, metabolic disorders, diabetes care and the emerging cardio-kidney-metabolic syndrome. One of the highlights will be a debate on whether GLP-1 analogue therapies or bariatric procedures offer better outcomes in obesity treatment.Infectious diseases will remain another major area of focus. Sessions will cover scrub typhus, tuberculosis, HIV, opportunistic infections, antiretroviral therapy and toxicology, with experts discussing evolving treatment strategies amid changing disease patterns.The event will also showcase ongoing academic research through paper presentations on subjects such as paraquat poisoning, lymphoma, pancytopenia, sleep disorders among people with diabetes and heart attacks in younger adults. A postgraduate quiz and clinical teaching sessions have also been scheduled.Adding to the academic depth of the conference, teams from Kakatiya Medical College, Warangal, and Gandhi Hospital will conduct clinico-pathological conferences, highlighting the growing importance of collaborative and specialised care in modern medicine.
