New Delhi: The rain disrupted morning traffic headed to schools and offices across Delhi on Thursday, with waterlogging on several roads slowing vehicles on key corridors and fallen trees adding to commuters’ woes.Among the worst-hit stretches was NH-24 near Ghazipur, where waterlogging severely affected traffic entering Delhi from Ghaziabad. Traffic Police issued an advisory urging commuters to avoid the stretch and instead take the Sector 62-Vasundhara-Mohan Nagar-Seemapuri route even as National Highways Authority of India teams tried clearing the waterlogging.Traffic also slowed on MB Road, Barapullah, Sangam Vihar and parts of Dwarka, with vehicles crawling through waterlogged stretches. Several internal roads across the city also witnessed slow-moving traffic during peak morning hours.A resident posted on social media, “In Rohini, heavy traffic congestion on KNK Marg could end up costing a patient his life. Both carriageways witnessed massive jams, with an ambulance barely inching forward. Traffic personnel were nowhere to be seen.”The downpour also brought down trees at many places, further disrupting traffic. One of the worst-affected spots was Raja Dhir Sen Marg in East of Kailash, where a tree fell between 2.30 and 3 am, forcing school buses plying on the route several hours later to take long diversions. “The stretch was yet to be cleared in the morning,” Karan Agarwal, a local, said. In Dwarka, children were seen cautiously wading through waterlogged streets while making their way to school.For many officegoers, the rain altered the entire day’s plans. Abhinav, an employee of a multinational company who commutes from Delhi to Noida, said he decided to work from home after seeing the downpour intensify.Traffic police said their personnel were deployed across the city throughout the day and advisories were issued. Stranded vehicles were removed to minimise congestion, officers said. At Libaspur–Samaypur Badli, traffic personnel moved a tempo stranded in a waterlogged stretch, while at the ITO intersection, a broken-down vehicle was quickly cleared. Similar interventions were carried out at several other locations.
