Cyber crime cops file 52 FIRs, arrest 36 in June

Hyderabad: In June 2026, Hyderabad Cyber Crime police registered 52 FIRs based on inter-state operations conducted following the complaints through the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal (NCRP) and arrested 36 offenders involved in 14 cases from five states.During the investigation, in 24 of those cases, where over ₹5 crore was lost, ₹48.98 lakh was recovered and refunded to the victims. Among the 36 arrested accused, 22 were arrested in investment frauds, five in social media-related offences, three in job frauds and six in matrimonial frauds.

According to police, maximum loss was reported in eight stock trading frauds, where the victims lost ₹70.7 lakh, out of which police managed to successfully get ₹10.56 lakh refunded.Of the 36 offenders, 26 were arrested from Telangana, four from Maharashtra, two each from Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Delhi.Police seized eight mobile phones, six debit cards, three SIM cards, two cheque books and a bank passbook from the accused.The Cyber Patrol Enforcement unit identified 280 active social media profiles across Facebook and Instagram that were executing 310 paid advertisements. “These advertisements promoted illegal activities, including online child exploitation, multilevel marketing schemes, and fraudulent investment websites designed to target vulnerable Indian internet users by promising unrealistic returns,” Cyber Crime police said.Police reported the 280 profiles to their respective platforms and they were taken down. Additionally, one FIR was registered against a promoter in June. This year, 958 social media profiles and 2517 paid promotional advertisements associated with online gaming, illegal betting and fake investment schemes were taken down.
