Guwahati: A brief spell of rain on Wednesday once again exposed Guwahati’s chronic waterlogging problem, with several areas going under water after the city recorded 7.4mm rainfall.Anil Nagar, Boragaon, Maligaon and Jorabat were among the areas where water accumulated soon after the showers, slowing traffic and leaving commuters stranded. Vehicles moved cautiously through inundated stretches, while pedestrians struggled to cross flooded roads.“I was returning from college when my two-wheeler almost stalled in Maligaon. It took me nearly an hour to cross a stretch that usually takes 10 minutes. Every spell of rain turns into the same ordeal,” said Hridoy Barthakur, a college student.A resident of Anil Nagar said the rain was not heavy, but water entered several lanes within minutes. “Many people had to wade through knee-deep water to reach their homes,” the resident said. The showers again brought focus to the city’s drainage network, with residents questioning why even short spells of rain continue to disrupt normal life. The India Meteorological Department has forecast generally cloudy skies with spells of rain or thundershowers in Guwahati over the next few days. Forecasts also indicate rain is likely to continue till July 14.
