Kolkata: A severe teacher shortage has forced Bidhannagar Govt High School’s morning section to make a roster for an extra off-day, for primary students alongside Sundays.A notice by the school’s teacher-in charge (TIC) implemented the roster on Wednesday for pre-primary to class 5. The decision mentioned an acute staff deficit, with one official saying, “We have more than 500 students but only four permanent teachers in the primary section.”Though the state govt deployed seven deputed teachers following requests, which is a rare practice for govt schools. Saugata Basu, general secretary of the West Bengal Govt School Teachers’ Association, said, “For the last two decades, there has been no recruitment in the primary section through the PSC.”
