Hyderabad: Telangana has improved its performance in school education across several important parameters, including learning outcomes, infrastructure, governance and equity, according to the Performance Grading Index (PGI) 2.0 for 2025-26 released by the Union Ministry of Education on Tuesday.The state scored 599.7 out of 1,000, up from 552.2 in 2024-25, and was placed in the Prachesta-3 category. According to the school education department, Telangana’s performance has shown steady improvement over the past few years, with the score rising from 489.3 in 2022-23 to 511.9 in 2023-24, before reaching 552.2 last year.The PGI is an evidence-based assessment framework introduced in 2017 to evaluate states and Union Territories on school education and identify areas requiring policy intervention in line with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and Sustainable Development Goals.The assessment draws on data across 70 indicators under categories including learning outcomes and quality, equity, infrastructure, governance and management. Equity carries the highest weightage of 260 marks, followed by learning outcomes and quality (240) and infrastructure (190).Among states and Union Territories, Chandigarh emerged as the top performer, followed by Delhi, Kerala, Punjab, Maharashtra and Odisha. Telangana shared the Prachesta-3 band with Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu.
