GURGAON: Days after a Noida-based senior graphic designer working with a television news channel suffered a fractured leg after he was hit by a speeding Baleno car while standing on the roadside in Gurgaon; Police have arrested the driver, who allegedly fled the scene after the accident, and seized the car used in the incident.The accident took place on July 2 near an HP Petrol Pump under the Badshahpur police station area. According to police, the victim had travelled to Gurgaon with a friend after attending the latter’s birthday party in Delhi.While his friend had gone inside the fuel station, the victim was waiting on the roadside when the Baleno, carrying three occupants including the driver, came at high speed and allegedly struck him.The impact threw the victim to the ground and left him with a fractured leg and injuries to other parts of his body. Police said the car veered into the roadside green belt after hitting the pedestrian before the occupants fled the spot with the vehicle without stopping to assist the injured man.Police received information about the accident and reached the spot, only to learn that the injured man had already been shifted to a private hospital for treatment.As the victim was initially declared unfit to give a statement by doctors, police waited until July 3, when he was declared fit, before recording his complaint.In his statement, the victim told police that he had been standing near the HP Petrol Pump when the Baleno, allegedly being driven at high speed in a rash and negligent manner, hit him, causing serious injuries.Based on the complaint, Badshahpur police registered a case under the relevant provisions of law and launched an investigation.During the probe, police identified and arrested the accused driver, Ravindra, a resident of Anangpur village in Faridabad district, from Gurgaon.Police said that during questioning, the accused disclosed that he had been driving the Baleno at high speed in a rash and negligent manner when it struck the complainant.The Baleno car allegedly used in the accident has been recovered and seized by the police. The accused has been joined in the investigation, while further legal proceedings are underway. Police said the investigation into the case is continuing.
