Pathikrit.ChakrabortyLucknow: An Ayodhya court on Tuesday granted a one-day police remand of three arrested accused in the donation theft case for their interrogation. The three accused are Anukalp Mishra, Lavkush Mishra and Karunesh Pandey. Earlier police had got 24-hour remand of Avinash Shukla for questioning.Ayodhya police had sought their remand to confront them with fresh evidence collected and to ascertain their specific roles in the alleged embezzlement of donation money. Police told the court that custodial interrogation was necessary after new leads emerged during the questioning of the remaining five accused, who were interrogated in Ayodhya jail on July 5.Police will grill the trio about the CCTV footage, financial records and other material collected during the investigation. Police also plan to confront them with statements and information obtained from the other accused to establish the sequence of events and individual roles in the alleged theft. On June 29, a local court had remanded all eight accused to 14 days judicial custody after their arrests.Police maintain that the custodial interrogation is crucial to reconstruct the alleged conspiracy, verify the roles of the accused, corroborate the evidence already collected and trace the movement of the allegedly siphoned-off funds. The investigation has so far involved scrutiny of CCTV footage, financial transactions, recoveries and other documentary evidence as police attempt to establish the alleged modus operandi and the involvement of each accused.
