Patwari caught taking Rs 15,000 bribe in land mutation case

Gurgaon: A patwari was arrested by the State Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 15,000 to process the mutation of land in Sherpur village in Pataudi.A case was registered against him under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, and Section 308(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).According to officials, the complainant approached the vigilance bureau after Rajesh Malhan allegedly sought illegal gratification to process the mutation of land owned by the complainant’s friend. The land was to be transferred in the revenue records in the name of the friend’s wife. “Initially, the patwari demanded Rs 45,000 to complete the mutation work. After the complainant requested him to reduce the amount, the accused agreed to accept Rs 20,000. He already took Rs 5,000 as the first instalment and later called the complainant to collect the remaining Rs 15,000,” an officer said.The bureau verified the allegations and laid a trap. As soon as Malhan accepted the remaining Rs 15,000 from the complainant, the vigilance team apprehended him on the spot and recovered the bribe amount.Officials said further investigation is under way to ascertain whether the accused sought illegal gratification in other cases as well.
