Varanasi: A bag containing 31 passports was recovered from a pond in Tulapur village under the Kachhwa police station area of Uttar Pradesh’s Mirzapur district after it became entangled in a fishing net on Monday afternoon. The passports belonged to people from several districts, prompting police to launch an investigation.Mirzapur ASP (city) Nitesh Singh said the sack had been filled with gravel, apparently to ensure it sank to the bottom of the pond.During the preliminary investigation, police found that some fishermen were catching fish by casting nets into the pond in Tulapur village when a sack became entangled in one of the nets. After pulling it out and opening it, they discovered several passports packed inside.After being alerted by villagers, Kachhwa police reached the spot and seized the passports. On examining some of the recovered documents, police found names and addresses of people from different districts, including Mirzapur, Varanasi, Bhadohi, and Ambedkar Nagar.CO Sadanand Singh said police were tracing the passport holders to determine how the documents were dumped in the pond.
